I am using a Fanuce Arcmate 100i with an Rj2 controller to weld ends on to long aluminium extrusions. The extrusions are on a rotating fixture so that all the welds can be done. The positions do not repeat 100% so some of the welds are not coming out right. I would like to put some steps in the beginning of the program to check and adjust the programmed positions. I have tried the following: Program starts and moves to a point ( position register) near the corner of the work piece. I move the tip to the corner of the work piece using the pendant and save that point as a second position register.

I now find the difference between this position register and the originally programmed position and store this in a third position register. Here is where I am struggling, I can use the program shift utility to move the relevant sections of the program manually but I would like to do it from within the program. I have tried the offset/frames instruction but this changes my user frame which affects all the position registers. Thanks Bernard. Instead of using a rotating fixture use a fixed fixture or make separate programs for each part on your rotating fixture and call it all into one program use a wait timer between each program have it wait at home point for fixture to turn maybe put a sensor on your rotating fixture like a door switch make it a fixture in position switch fanuc sells a sensor package that will look at the part and will call the program in according to what fixture it sees that also nice because if your clamping your part down or have any tight spaces the robot wont go until its 100% in place.
Thanks to Biozombie, The parts are longish beams, I use the rotary fixture so that I mount the part once for each end and can the weld all round in stages. If I used fixed stations I end up clamping and unclamping the part six or eight times depending on access. I have now copied and pasted the program so that it runs 4 times in one program, there is a pause programmed in for me to turn the fixture and mount the next part.
Once the program starts it moves to a point on the fixture ( center punch mark) which is in a different point for every orientation of the fixture, I just check that it lines up and start the next cycle. This works well the only headache is adjustments to the program need to be done in 4 places.
